Police and firefighters assess two of the vehicles involved in a four-vehicle chain-reaction accident that occurred about 1:40 pm, December 30, on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Simm Lane. The accident caused travel delays in the area as police investigated. Police said motorist Styeven Svanda, 27, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy SUV, struck the rear end of a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta sedan driven by Jesse Von Sailer, 21, of Newtown. The Volkswagen then struck the rear end of a 2011 Hyundai Sonta sedan driven by Tyler Andserson, 27, of Northford, causing the Hyundai to strike the rear end of 2012 BMNW 5series auto Katherine Scheunemann, 59, of Sandy Hook, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefightyers and the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps reponsed to the scene, Police said they issued Svanda a written warnming for following too closely.
